You know the word Yakuza. It is a kind of Japanese mafia, but to be honest with you, I don't know much about the Yakuza. Here is an interesting page about them. Hmm big tatoo. ( Tattoos always remind me of a big laugh tattoo story. :-p ) And since I am toooooooo weak for bloody movies, I cannot wathc any Yakuza movie. (I might die if I watched Kill Bill.)
The Yakuza movies were very popular in Japan before. A popular one was Battles Without Honor and Humanity (Jingi naki Tatakai). This movie was only one of a long runing series. Ken Watanabe appeared in one in 2003, but it was only released on only video. As Yakuza movies fo, the Wives of Yakuza ( Gokudo no Tsuma tachi ) series seems to be more popular more than others. Gokudo is a sort of self-aggrandizing diminutive of Yakuza. It has a meaning that delves into the real man's way. The popular comedy Drama Gokusen stand for Gokudo Sensei, it mean's Yakuza teacher (because her family is Yakuza). At the end of March, the newest version of the movie Wives of Yakuza will come out. Reiko Takashima is the 4th Main character of this movie. I think she is beautiful. What do you think? The first was Shima Iwashita. She had really a punch. Anyway here are their movie figure. Yakuza's wives in Kimono action figures. ha ha ha a little bit funny.

Hi Scott
Ah you are in japan? I have never seen that drama. Actually I have found last three days I did not turn on TV.
Hi Robert
Yes Kill Bill Kill Mari that is true. Not only violent, but also Lucy Lu is Cho hetakuso to use Japanese Katana.
Hi AB
Yes Mafia is okay. I can see Gun fight.

I've been watching Gokusen. Its a really fun drama to watch. The main character starts her teaching career. She is part of a yakuza family, so she has to keep it a secret. Its basically one of those school dramas, but with a nice twist.

Kill Bill Kill Mari? Nah... it wasn't that bad actually. It was black and white during the bloodiest scenes, and really kind of humorous in a way. It reminded me of those old kung fu movies..the kind that only came on really late at night when I was younger. I loved those. Though I have to say as FINE as Lucy Lu is..her Japanese pronunciation was deplorable ( like I have any room to talk with my toddlers comprehension, but meh...) KB1&2 were decent for an overall view of the genre, but it seems that sometimes it was too self aware to really work. It was obvious that QT has a great love of his Chop Socky, but unless you actually saw alot of what he was referring to, it just came out as an empty set. Like speaking in another language and expecting everyone to love the sound of it. Some might, but to others it just sounds like noise. Now that I'm way off topic I just wanted to add, it must be tough being the wife of Yakuza..not that I'll ever qualify for that role..;p but honestly there is some kind of interesting dynamic in that relationship. I think that's probably why the series is so popular. I have not seen any of them, but it seems the idea is to combine the weak with the strong..a bit empowering and non-traditional. and I'm sorry AB I am not very familiar with this genre really, in fact thanks to Mari I think I'll have to visit Scarecrow Video to see if I can find some of these movies. I will see if anything fits your query while I'm there though.. I promise. and as for the tattoos. wow! some of the most amazing body art I have ever seen, but man, I would hate to see it when it gets old and saggy. not pretty..I'm sure of it.

I am a big fan of Mafia and Triad genre. The movie Goodfellas and the HBO's Soprano's reminded me of the neighborhood that I grew up in. Almost everyone speaks with a Brooklyn accent (I am gonna wawk to da stawl and get a cup of cawfee). Speaking of gangster movie, Martin Scorsese is currently filming the Bostonian version of the blockbuster Hong Kong triad film, Infernal Affair. By the way, can anyone here recommend a good Yakuza movie like Godfather or Goodfellas?
