It could be named after "kumpir", which is a Turkish baked potato with all sorts of crazy toppings.
Europeans also used to prefix almost any new exotic food with "Turkey" or "Turkish". That's how turkey (the bird) got its name- it was called "Turkey fowl" despite being from North America.
