Your map and my map

Today I was making a project paper at work, it took a long time to make the concept map, drawing Graphs and maps ask us sense, don't you think so? Then while I was looking for nice hints for a mapping,I found a funny topic.

American people would know this commoncensus map site, they say "The CommonCensus Map Project is redrawing the map of the United States based on your input." Hmm do you agree with this sports map? This is another Pop vs Soda map, hmm I did not know you call it POP. And this Gerrymandering is very interesting, it was nice to know it.

In Japan, somebody started chakuriki project. They say it is the project that reveals each part of the world's image. Here is the main page. Some pages are in English. I enjoyed very much this fool's world map. Las Vegas and Disneyland are so big in the U.S! It is much more likely that Asian think Jamaica is in Africa (sure!). Actually my mom thought Mexico locates next to India...orz. This is the planet, ha ha Big bang is surreally cool. And this is the US map New Hampshire and Vermont and Connecticut became New York. Nevada became Las Vegas. Because their names are similar, Kansas became Texas??? :-)

Talking about Japan part, "our image" part is funny. 04 is Iwate prefecture, image of Iwate is huge self defense practice field...ahh that is all. 12 is Ibaraki, our image is Natto and street gang, 13 Tochigi is very close not only location but also image too. The difference between them are Tochigi's specialty is not Natto, Gyoza. 19 is Aichi, it's TOYOTA city. 27 is Nara, it's tourist place of the oldest wooden temple "Horyuji" and a href="http://www.kiis.or.jp/rekishi/nara/img0115-e.html" target="_blank">the great Buddha. (I wonder they have still arguments about this?). I love 36-39. Those four image can tell the ambiguity of our image for Shikou. There are four prefectures in Shikoku Island. They have great beautiful nature at least!...then?? I know Sanuki Udon of 36 Kagawa pref is super delicious, 38 Tokushima has a big festival "Awa odori", 39 Ehime is famous for a href="http://www.pref.ehime.jp/faz/industry/ind3-1.html" target="_blank">their Orange. 37 is Kagawa but sorry I can't understand why it's green, maybe something they have :-P. He he he I will stop now. I will update when chakuriki update something the map with something funny again.

Regarding maps, the most interesting was this one for me. Why Japanese like to draw a Japan map by HTML tag or excel?　Actually I can find a lot of Japan maps made by tag or excel, sometime asci art too. I did not feel anything wrong but I could know it is very hard to find the tag map in foreign sites. When you search map on Google image, only Japan has the tag map. This is UK, US, Canada, China, Australia that seems to easy to make map by MS excel. Why Japanese love to draw our map by tag, even though it has a long and narrow land shape?? I have no idea.

Thanks, the "our image" drawings are so funny, I wish they were bigger so we can see all the details! That is such a Japanese sense of humour isn't it.
