Six Degrees of Separation
I got a very interesting mail from suzanne (thank you suzanne, I hope you allow me to introduce this mail here). She asked me if I can tell something about it.
FACTS
-This man is named Satoshi.
-This text translates to "find me."
BACKGROUND
-A UK-based game company seems to be testing the "Six Degrees of Separation" principle and has challenged the world with finding this man.
-Discussion about this challenge is at this Unfiction message thread.
-There is a second discussion thread at the Perplex City forums.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
-If you know or have seen this man, or have any other tips (for instance, you recognize the village in the background), please do not hesitate to join one of the above discussion boards or contact brian@netninja.com so that the information can be passed along.
-Show this URL to your friends. Even if you have never seen him, there is a chance that one of your friends might have.
I can tell, it isn't Japan. The biggest hint is the house behiind him and we hardly have such housees which have random lattice beams on outside walls. The house looks not so new, we have hardly have such type of color house too. And also we can see white house that has a chimney on the roof. I can tell it is very hard to find the house that has a chimney in Japan. For me, it looks some local village in Europe. Satoshi should be in Northern Europe. What do you think?

its in france...Kaysersberg

looks like old english architecture to me. quite a lot of places in the country have kept their old visuals, also in england, you have the whole "heritage architechture" that's makes the newest buildings look like they were built hundreds of years ago ^_^
i don't know this person, but my guess is he's standing somewhere in the northern part of england, or perhaps scotland, the weather definately looks british ^_^
this is cool though...i do believe in the 6 degrees of seperation theory, it would be cool if they can statistically prove it.

Northern Europe seems like a good guess. I don't have specific information about this type of architecture, so I can't localize it further. Norway, perhaps?
Of course, the game company could have chosen an intentionally misleading background. For all we know, the houses in this photo might be atypical of the geographical area.
