Men's pocky special edition
I wrote that "men's" is an important keyword for personal consumption issues. Guys were not a target for sweets makers, but they has released men's sweets in this year. (some of them are so funny to me though). Glico men's pocky is a pioneer of such a kind of sweets. They will release special men's pocky for men in their 30's in this winter. It's Pocky with Gundam. (Pocky can be the Gundam saber). orz... How simple, straightforward! But I can tell you it will be sold out soon, Gundam is the faith for guy in thier 30's actually.
The movie Death Note became big hit. Then we have news that the side story about L will be made into a movie in 2008. It will be a completely new story for the movie and Kenichi Matsuyama will act as L again. My friends went to see the movie and they recommend that I wait for DVD, ha ha ha. One friend said he felt Tatsuya Fujiwara was Imaichi (so so) because our image for Light has more sharpe face. He said Kinki Kids will be nice for Light and L. I agree with him very well. Koichi is exactly looks like Light and Tsuyoshi will fit to L.

月 The character for moon. The moon viewed as an evening "light". I think calling himself Light is more of a symbolic representation of meanings associated with the moon, rather than a phonetic reading of the character.

I think the same too for L and Light, but since I don't saw the movie, maybe they are good.

Hi there
月 is not pronounced "Light". It'll be impossible to have that name officially in real. Only Nick name, Pen name will be okay.

There are additional pronunciations for kanji in names. I believe it is called nanori. From what I've heard, in a name, you can pretty much use any kanji and pronounce it any way you want. Don't know haw it really goes, though.

Since "Death Note" was mentioned again, I wanted to ask a general question about it. The main character's name is "Light," but writes his name with the Kanji 月. One would expect this to be pronounced something like "Tsuki" or "Getsu"; the pronunciation "Light" doesn't seem to have any connection with the Kanji. My question: how common is it for Japanese people to pronounce their written names in such a way that has no traditional connection to the spelling?
