ha ha ha ha I didn't know this, "McDonald's Sasuke Toy"
This is socks cute right?
This sock got Tokyo Midtown award in 2008(when the alert "this event is over" comes up, please push black banner you can see page) the competition theme was Japan, winner's design was great. Kabuki face pack mask, Sushi samurai charm, Japanese armor Tshirt, most of all I love a red paper weight. When you put on white paper, you can sense Japan there. What a great idea!!
and this is nice too, Fujisan grass, when you drink beer with this, you can see mt.Fuji on a table.
Kaga is a way to call of Ishikawa Prefecture and Toyama Prefecture during the Edo period. And ishikawa has started "lady Kaga campaign" for their tourist industry. I think Ishikawa is not so popular place for foreign people. But Ishikawa has great Japanese hotel "Ryokan" a lt. We have the best Ryokan ranking every year that was selected by travel business professional. And no.1 is always Kagaya in ishikawa for over 30 years. Their food, service, hospitality is totally great.
Maybe I will be dissapointed to my prounatiation too. I can't laght at all :-(
I read Steven Jobs like Japanese food and they have some Japanese menu on Apple company cafeteria, so so many people was Good bye and thank you Steven Jobs on the internet and one of them was "Tsukiji Soba Academy" that we can't imagine they are connect to Apple. But I read Apple kitchen stuffs visited to learn Japanese food to them and they are connected. Anyway one of famous Japanese menu in Apple was Sashimi soba, I am not sure it is true or not, but very unique menu, that I have never heard in Japan :-)
Occupy wall street spread out to the world, Of course it comes to Japan, here is a site "Occupy Tokyo", they had three demo walking in last Saturday. Mainly they protest for tax, anti-nuclear and poor job situation.
American nature photographer Tim Laman appears on Canon TV show and this is their special site "Into the nature", you can watch his job on the set and his beautiful photos.
A japanese toilet maker TOTO has a toilet bike project now. It is the one that bike runs 1000km to Tokyo on biogas funeral. But since the seat has toilet shape(it is just a symbol and it doesn't work) I read foreign sites misunderstood that the bike can run by your poop! it's a bike powered by your poop! No no no no, I hope you understand it's wrong.TOTO appeals the biogas part and the bike doesn't run by your poop!
My favorite Lupin the third wears disguise with mask when he rob. Even for kid, it's false, it looked impossible to have such realistic mask. But it is not dream anymore. A Japanese company called 3DPFs copies of human faces in 3D and make real masks.
Before we need to use wax to make such real mask but they use stereo-gram technology so that it will take only two weeks and also cost is low.(First mask is $3000.
Bubble wrap is called "Puti Put"i in Japan, it is called like that because of sound when you break bubbles, in Japan Kawakami Sangyo has sweeping top share in this product and "puti puti" is made as their registered trade name now. As leading company their bubble wrap products are unique. I picked before heart shape one,. Funny one is wrap for only enjoying to break, it called Pucchin skat" (means feeling good to break or something like that). That special wrap has harder skin and makes very loud sound. According the company's report, every countries, every generation,(even babies) and apes enjoy to break bubble and it seems to work for releasing stress, the company said they get bulk order from nursing home, because Alzheimer patients can be calm and sit down for long when they break bubble. And you know what? Kawakami Sangyo sent a lot of Pucchin skat to 33 miracle in 2010 Copiapo mining accident. we don't know 33 guys did putiputi under ground.
Another one is Kenji Murabayashi. His works are carved wooden figurines, cute!!
Since July 21th, the Shibuya tourist information center was opened in front of Shibuya station near the Hachiko statue. You can ask them anything about Shibuya. They have visitors from over 50 countries.
My American friend says "hell no" to Omu rice, he says that ketchup on rice is difficult to try. You think so? Omu rice is great, especially with a half-cooked omelette like in the movie Tanpopo.
Soft ice cream "Whip ice cream" has been released by Glico and Lawson. You can eat it as ice cream of course, but you can also use it as a spread for toast/pancakes or as a topping for coffee. Glico and Lawson created this product because sales of bread tend to fall in summertime. I like this idea, I would love to have this with iced coffee.
I like this: "Smelly Arm Pit Knocks Dog Out Cold". The guy did a live stream on nico nico namahouso (live streaming version of nico nico douga). Then his dog smelled his armpit and the dog was knocked out, but apparently the dog was acting like that on purpose.
This is what he said:
(to the net) You ask me why did I started live streaming? Because I feel lonely.
(to his dog) What are you doing?
(to the net) My dog fell over. What? He smelled my arm pit, and then he was knocked out?
(to his dog) Please stop acting like this. You act in such a foolish way so I have to admit that my arm pit smells bad, right?
(to the net) No, he're not moving, he is down.
(to his dog) Your eyes are open, you are totally awake, right? Why do you act like this? What? Now you cut a fart! You! You laid a fart, right? Right? Did you? You did it right? I could hear you.
(to the net) This is a bad dog right? He farted because he ate dinner and was lazy after that, then he tried to run away from here then put muscle around here. No, he is not sleeping even though he's snoring now. No no, look at him, he is awake, he is just faking it. What? He looks like me. I don't care about him, he doesn't matter, I don't care about this dog's life.
.... and so on, what a funny guy and dog.
TDK started making a see-through EL phone display. A Chinese cell phone maker has already decided to use this for their new model.
Because of trouble at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, we won't have enough electricity for this summer. We've been told we have to save energy both at home and at the office. At home, it is recommended we use fans instead of AC. And at work, some companies are taking "summer time" shifts or offering three day weekends to avoid peak consumption of energy. In an extreme case, the Softbank group is offering work-from-home this summer! (I don't know why Yahoo! Japan won't follow the trend!!) Companies that don't change their work shifts will have to use less AC, so workers are encouraged to wear "COOL BIZ wear". We've had cool biz wear campaigns before, however this is the first time it's okay to wear shorts at work.
We will have a hard summer this year, the weather report says it will be a very hot summer again... We have some "energy saving" but there are still some neat summer products to enjoy. One of them is this Gari Gari kun crushed ice maker. Gari Gari kun is a popular and very cheap ice bar in Japan, the product can make crushed ice by pushing in a Gari Gari kun bar and twisting to crush the ice, a very reasonable way to make ice desserts.
Holy shit! What the hell is this? Manga plates by Mika Tsutai
Honor system shops are easy to find in Japan. Here is a collection of photos of such shops, usually they sell fruits or wild vegetables they find in the woods like takenoko (bamboo shoots). There are some around my home and sometimes I buy vegetables from them.
Another food topic from the US: "Four local chefs turn the most famous dish at McDonald's into a five-star meal."
A Japanese eyeglass shop made this:
The smallest 7-Eleven in Japan.
"Death toll in food poisoning at 'yakiniku' chain reaches 4". 4 people died from eating the raw meat dish "Yukhoe". Apparently, when you serve raw meat, you're supposed to trim the outer layer off and only serve the inside part, but this store wasn't doing that. Also, there's no government regulation saying that restaurants have to trim their meat when serving it raw, so no laws were broken. I didn't know that. I like raw meat, but I won't eat it until the regulations are fixed.
