When I was a elementary school girl, a bizarre tale swept through Japan. It was called Kuchi-sake Onna. (Kuchi = mouth, Sake = Spit out, Onna = woman). A masked woman would stop a kid on the street and ask, "am I beautiful?" When the child answered "yes" she would then ask, "what about now?", showing her mouth stretch from ear to ear.
I don't know the origin of this rumor, but this tale spread all over Japan. I remember I was very scared when I would have to go back home alone, actually some students would not go outside because of fear. It became a little problem in Japan those days. Because some kids couldn't go even school, prep school. Well it was a sort of city legend like Taikano Masakado, Hanako san in Toilet and Sagawa Kyubin.
It was long time ago that we http://smt.blogs.com/mari_diary/had Kuchisake Onna panic, I have forgetten about Kuchisake onna until recently. NOW, I am surprised to hear she is back!! In Korea, Korean students have a Kuchisake onna rumor and little kids go back home in groups because they are so scared. They say maybe the rumor has spread, starting on the internet, from Japan to Korea. But why now?! hmmm interesting.
Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.

Take a look at this game based on the 'kuchisake onna' story.
Still a work in progress, but will be out soon. Any questions or input, drop me an email. ;)

That's very creepy!
There are all kinds of stories about spirits out in the desert. We have totem stories (animals like coyotes or grey wolves or vultures). I've heard something called the skinwalker as well. Hope I never run into one!
