I bought a novel "Real Barleybrake" two days ago, the story is nonsense. A selfish "King" has the last name "Sato". "Sato" is very popular name in Japan, but he wants to be ONLY "Sato" in this country. So he plans "7 days barleybrake" for all Satos in the country. If he or she is caught, they have to be die. The game time is one hours (11pm to midnight) a day, the period is seven days. No trains, no cars, no bicycles.....
Actually the most common last name in Japan is Sato. About 430000 people have the Last name Sato.
Here is the ranking.
No.1 Sato
No.2 Suzuki
No.3 Takahashi
No.4 Tanaka
No.5 Ito
then Watanabe,Yamamoto, Nakamura, Kobayashi, Kato are the top 10.
In the U.S, many people know Suzuki because it is Ichiro's last name. In the U.S, according to the 1990 data. No1. is Smith, No.2 is Johnson, No.3 is Williams, No.4 is Jones, and No.5 Brown. There are around 3 million Smiths in the U.S.and they've held the top spot for
the last 13 years. I suppose the U.K. will have almost the same results as this.
Then most common last name in the world is Zhang. I heard 10 % of Chinese has the last name Zhang. So the population of China is about 1.3billion. So about 130 million is Mr. or Ms Zhangs in this world. It is more than the population of Japan. Yes China is really huge.
Your mother is my most common last name

...interesting. To add mine it may be interesting that the most common surname in Italy is "Rossi", followed by "Russo", "Ferrari", "Esposito",...
The same for the English "Mr. Smith" (the common man) it's "Signor Rossi".
