Aoyama is one of my favourite towns, I mentioned Aoyama as a "design and interior town". And also if you like architecture, Aoyama is a good place to see some later buildings like PLADA (It's beautiful, I like the biological, organic form), Dior (At night, this building is fantastic. the glass wall seems to wave), Tods, and more and more.
Spiral is a relatively old building, which has variety shop, gallery and restaurant. But still they can keep their style in centre of Aoyama, maybe because they show something new to us. I will go to see this exhibition HIDA; Furniture using Japanese sugi wood (a local species of cypress) designed by a great Italian designer Enzo Mari. Around the entrance, there is a small space for a shop which is changed at fixed intervals. This week it is Kamawanu which I mentioned sometimes open there. I bought some Japanese summer season towels.
CAY is a restaurant and bar in B1 of Spiral. Then I went to Aoyama CAY to see the Coctails and the Archer Prewitt Band. It was pretty good. I did not know about them, and actually I did not check about them enough before tonight. But when I listened to Archer Prewitt Band, my first impression was "it is artistic". As if I was looking at photos, illustration, paintings, their music was very painterly.
Now I got home, and I checked about them. Then I understand very well. The member of band Archer Prewitt is the creator of Sof'Boy. I have never read that cartoon, but they say you can't read it without crying. Puffy Sof'boy is always a positive and super nice boy even though he has a mountain of troubles. Hmm I really didn't know about it, but it looks quite good. Anyway, Archer Prewitt drew the band illustrations too. And now in Tokyo we have his exhibition in Billiken Gallery in Aoyama.
Anyway Archer Prewitt Band has very mature, subtle music, The Coctails makes happy music but it is calculated with their sense and skill. In this site, you can sample their music. Please try. Thank you! Ann-Marie.

hmmm, I'm guessing some of that HIDA wood comes from up around my way....
Archer Prewitt is great, been a fan for years. If you like him you should check out http://www.fantagraphics.com/artist/ware/ware.html "> Chris Ware , his Jimmy Corrigan comics are sooo sweet and sad.
