Tarako means cod roe in Japanese. We eat it Mentaiko (it's very delicious) , fresh, roasted, in a dip, in cod roe sauce, etc.
Kewpie is a food maker and their "tarako pasta sauce" TV ads are very strange. This is the first one, second one, the third one, and now they they have releases this. Cute? Weird? With that song burned into people's brain, they finally released the Tarako song, Here is the music video. Kewpie had a street champaign for the song. I've read though that people chose it "the most disappointing CD I got recently" in September. Well, that really doesn't surprise me, What did they expect for that CD? Here is Kewpie's TV ad page. Most of them are beautiful. Check it out. By the way, I like this, she made Tarako-chan with real cod roe.
I happened to see the Tarako music video online a few weeks ago, and I wondered when it would be mentioned here. I must admit, though, that the song didn't stick in my memory as much as the girls' strange hats did. Considering the final linked image on your post, I'm wondering if perhaps the hats were meant to symbolize cod roe; I hadn't thought of that.
