Whic side is the US? US-Mexico boarder.
Kumi Yamashita (I think she is Japanese) her shadow arts are great. Here is the movie.
Iwate is a prefecture of Japan located in the North region, in winter time it's very cold. In February, they have an annual traditional festival "Somin sai", known as the naked festival to pray for the productiveness of grain. Wearing only fundoshi (Japanese traditional pants) or naked, guys clean their bodies in the river and after that they fight over a shrine charm. The festival is identifed as an intangible cultural heritage. Here is the good photos to know the festival. Every year, people can know the festival is coming by posters in town. BUT this year, JR stations took down the posters and refused to put them up in the station again, because some women claim "that's KIMOCHIWARUI!!" Here it is. Hmm, in Japanese KIMOCHIWARUI means, disgusting, gross, scungey, sick, yacky, you know perfect deny. I won't say that poster looks beautiful or nice. But at least, it's our culture, so I hope women could show tolerance a little bit (it's not a guy, it's just a bear! I can think like that). And most of all, I hate JR's attitude. I couldn't understand why JR accepted such a silly claim. By the say, I like the guy's chest hair :-)
This is interesting. Irregular food combinations makes suprises. I will pick some.
Page No1
Cucumber + Honey = Melon : I tried this before, I may agree.
Tuna + Banana = Avocado : Hmm, I guess, it will be close.
Yogurt + Tofu = Cheese cake : Really? Really? I will try!
Vanilla ice cream + Soy sauce = Japanese sweets, "dango".
Page No2
Cucumber + Cheese + Honey = chestnuts : the site say, can't agree though
Tomato + Sugar = Strawberry : I don't think it tastes like strawberry but it will be delicious
Avocado + Soy sauce + Wasabi = Tuna : yes, maybe so that california roll is delicious
Rum raisin ice cream + Soy sauce = Tofu : Hmm, I think they can match.
Page No3
Pudding + Soy sauce = Sea urchin (UNI) : I don't think it is popular food in the world though, Sea urchin is an expensive sushi item in Japan. You may try it in this way, also it can be vegetarian sushi.
Then they choose this best one!
Orange + NORI + Soy sauce = salmon roe (IKURA) : I have never tried this before, but IF it's good, it can be new SUSHI for vegetarians too. Don't you think so?
Mmm. I love tomatoes and sugar. It cuts the acid taste that the tomatoes sometimes has. But I never thought it tasted like a strawberry!

I agree w/ you 100%!!! JR is trying too hard to be "politically correct" - it's a CULTURAL FESTIVAL!
Btw, ever try vanilla ice cream and a quality red vinigar? = yogurt (Learned from my brother while he was on student exchange in Jpn.)

Somin sai:
Japanese guys got cute little butts! (^-^) fundoshi looks good on the J guys!
Butt, a festival like that here in MN would be totemo kowaii! Wet, fat, hairy, pasty-white, white guys wearing fundoshi would definitely be totemo kimochiwauri - uber ick!!! :(-
You can have the hairy guys, Mari - all of 'em! ;) I put a dozen in a big box and ship 'em over to ya! ;)
Atarashii Nihongo no kotoba kara ~ kimochiwauri ~ arigatou gozaimashita!

Those food combinations are very interesting. I'll have to show them to my wife, who's very good at combining odd flavors. For instance, my wife once had the idea to combine nectarines with a little black pepper and other spices. It was surprisingly good.
I think I recall reading about the combination of cucumber and honey before. The story involved the mother of a poor Japanese family who couldn't afford melon, and so she gave her children cucumber with honey and told them it was melon.

Tijuana is a meltin pot, people from all over the country live there, aslo a lot of people from other countries like Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala and a lot of people try to cross to the U.S.
