“Hara wo saguru” (seek the stomach) means to "guess or feel out another's thinking." “Hara wo waru” (open stomach) means "get out and be true to oneself." “Hara wo kimeru” (decide one’s stomach) ?means to "be decisive, be determinate." I have no idea why Japanese people ascribe thinking and matters of the heart to the stomach. It would be interesting to study why that is.

Yahoo JAPAN's April Fools trick was “Live-Action Evangelion." I didn't like the trick, though on the Internet, results for "who would be the best cast" was hot. Even if you don’t know these Japanese actors or actresses, I think you can enjoy this. They look like their character:

In Japanese, we say that a person has a “black-stomach” (hara guroi). We have more stomach-sayings like “Hara ga suwaru” (stomach sit down), which means "settle down, calm your nerves." “Hara wo saguru” (seek the stomach) means to "guess or feel out another's thinking." “Hara wo waru” (open stomach) means "get out and be true to oneself." “Hara wo kimeru” (decide one’s stomach) ?means to "be decisive, be determinate." Jeff;

I met a Russian girl in Yokohama who was releasing pop music in Japanese... I suppose there'd be a fair few Western-looking females fluent in Japanese. The trick is to find a competent actress who vaguely resembles Asuka.

Why do japanese have Aprils Fool? Isn't it only in America?

Why do japanese always like to copy everything from America? Is Japan a boring country that people there have nothing to do but copying everything from other countries?

Jeff

Erika Toda looks too Japanese to be Asuka... she's supposed to be half German and she's supposed to look German. They would need a western actress who can speak fluent Japanese to really get that right... wouldn't be easy.

But there actually is a live-action Evangelion movie in pre-production... it's just taking a loooooooooooooooong time to make and has gone through a bunch of different changes. You can read more about it here: http://neon-genesis-evangelion.moviechronicles.com/?rd=1

Hiroshi Abe was the only one I recognized (I loved 結婚できない男), but I laughed. He looks exactly like Gendo, I never realized! I don't know if I could believe him as a very serious character though.
