The Hakone Eva map reminded me of a question I've been meaning to ask. On this map, and in the recent movie version, Evangelion is spelled "ヱヴァンゲリヲン," using the obsolete katakana for "we" at the beginning and the rare one for "wo" towards the end. The old spelling didn't use these characters. I was wondering, what does this usage symbolize?
