Here is a ranking of popular gourmet manga. We Japanese really love to read manga about food & cooking, and how human drama relates to foods. People not only read gourmet manga, but also try making their recipes. This is a great cooking site for manga recipes, all the foods look good!
1. Oishinbo (The Gourmet): Culinary journalist Yamaoka's food adventures. This manga not only features food, but it also includes food education and food safety concerns. Actually, there was this story in the news today: "food safety groups protest and request correction of Oishinbo manga." In the manga, there are recommendations for real restaurants and food products, which is unique to this manga.
2. Cooking Papa: The story of a businessman who is a very good cook. This manga is popular because it focuses on common homemade dishes, but includes unique hints for making them more delicious. The TV version of the manga has videos of recipes.
3. Mr. Ajikko: A boy has genius talent for cooking.
4. Bambino!: The story of an Italian chef who is in training. Matsujun of Arashi plays Bambino in the TV drama
5.Antique Bakery: Four men work in a small bakery, this manga was made into a TV drama in Japan and a film in Korea.
6. Aji ichi monme: The story of Japanese cooks at a Japanese restaurant.
7. Kuitan: A detective who loves to eat solves mysteries using his deductive powers and his tastebuds.
8. Hochounin Ajihei: The story of a Japanese cook at a Western style restaurant.
9. Shota no Suchi: A story of a sushi chef.
10. Shinya Shokudo: I liked watching this TV show, it's mainly a drama that takes place at a old restaurant that opens after midnight. Here is a video.

I read Oishinbo as I was learning Japanese. It will always occupy a special place for me. It was also responsible for developing my appreciation for food.
I wish they would make a drama out of it.

I love Iron Chef. 料理の鉄人. It wasn't on for a long time but it was one of my favorite shows. I watched it before I lived in Japan and I wish it was still on!

The first Japanese TV series I ever watched was "My Little Chef". It was a really sweet
story of a chef who could help people solve their problems through the food she served them. And the food always looked incredible.
